Christ the King Lutheran Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)

In 1996 a group of people came together to with hopes of starting a new church in the Lapeer area. What came to fruition was Christ the King (CTK). Our purpose since then was and is to serve the growing community of Lapeer and to offer a place of worship for those looking for what we would call a semi-non-traditional experience with God through Jesus Christ.

From our beginnings we have strived to serve the people and Lapeer in variety of ways. Be it our booth at Lapeer Days, offering events to educate and inform the community, a special worship service, our several groups and teams, we look to welcome all into the kingdom that is the Risen Jesus Christ. All are welcome in this place, and though we have had our fair share of worship spaces over the last nineteen years, we hope to have a permanent home soon. We have moved forward to this goal by purchasing eight acres off of M-24 and by becoming an official organized church in November 2011.

We welcomed our first called Pastor, Andrew Gookin in February 2013. Since then we have moved out of our space in the lower level of an office building and currently worship at 911 Baldwin Rd. Our goal to find a permanent home is still moving forward and we invite you become a part of it.

Learn more about our larger church body, the ELCA:

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with about 4.8 million members in nearly 10,000 congregations across the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. For us, as the ELCA, this faith comes through the good news of Jesus Christ and gives us the freedom and the courage to wonder, discover and boldly participate in what God is up to in the world.
We are a church that is always being made new, and at the same time, is deeply rooted in Scripture, Lutheran theology and Lutheran confessions. We are also rooted in the vibrant, diverse communities and rich histories of our congregations. It’s through these roots that the Holy Spirit guides and nourishes us so that we can be a church that is both resilient and always new.

We welcome you to join this community of faith — the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — regardless of your age, race, gender, life experience, complexities and questions. You have a unique story that can only add to the richness of the larger story that makes up the ELCA. There is a place for you here!
